Loads on edge

Edge loading of the pavement results in significantly higher stress in the slab. This is being taken into account by a quantification of the percentage of the wheels of the trucks that will travel within 300 mm of the pavement edge. If the shoulder supports the slab edge, for example by tie-bars in the concrete shoulder, then this percentage is zero.
