Water content

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The water content in the concrete mix at the time of construction has a significant effect on shrinkage and thus load transfer efficiency at joints and cracks. Reducing the water content reduces the shrinkage and promotes load transfer efficiency. However, reduced water content diminishes workability and thus may compromise the strength of the concrete.
